Kitchen Island Design
Kitchen Island Design
Kitchen island design is vast, as the British would say! So many different shapes and sizes; some more for show, others simply practical work stations.
The island above is in a Shaughnessy residence; a historic district in Vancouver, British Columbia. This island is 10′ wide x 7′ deep. It has a large sink in the middle, ta set of Fischer Paykel dishwasher drawers on either side of the sink and a Sharp microwave drawer on one end.
The custom cabinets are beaded inset face frame cabinets with concealed adjustable hinges and full extension soft-closing drawer slides.
This kitchen island is part of a modern French country style kitchen. The island cabinets are square inset face framed cabinets made of alder with a two-tone brushed milk paint finish. The counter-top is reclaimed Douglas fir. See more photos from this project here.
This Calgary, Alberta kitchen actually has two islands, with one serving mostly as a place to pull up a stool for a snack or visit with the cook.
The horseshoe shape is so fitting for this rodeo stampede city.
Both are oval shaped, with the deep red island being the work island with a cook-top, a prep sink, a dishwasher, an open bookshelf and storage drawers.

Simply elegant and also painted Benjamin Moore ‘Simply White’, this Point Grey, Vancouver kitchen island has beaded inset face frame cabinets.
The larger top drawer with a small badge is a single Fischer Paykel dishwasher drawer next to the island prep sink. There is another standard dishwasher next to the main sink. See more project photos here.
