Project Description
Dolores’ Modern Art Deco Kitchen
Dolores’ modern art deco kitchen was so fun to create together with her. Inspired in part by a vintage art deco hutch which Dolores still uses today.
When Dolores first contacted us, she was having trouble finding a cabinetmaker who she trusted to build the concave and convex cabinets she was going to need for this horseshoe shaped kitchen. Thank you AutoCAD for helping us get all the radius correct at our first kick at the can.
This remarkable kitchen is not only beautiful, but it is also very functional. From left to right: as you pass the convex base and upper cabinets you come to the tall green integrated SubZero fridge and freezer drawers behind matching cabinet doors. Two banks of drawers and then the curve begins with a comfortable built-in bench curving around as well as leaning back. Regular height base cabinets continue, including recycling, the sink, a bank of two deep drawers and then counter drops for a lower baking area, mimicking the bench on the left. Then back up to a regular height for an appliance-lift cabinet and on to the tall green built-in wall oven and microwave cabinet, mimicking Subzero on the other side, before coming out at the convex cabinets on the right.
The two islands are both oval shaped; one holds the cook-top and prep sink and the other provides ‘close-to-the-kitchen’ seating for this family of six children.
Since we are limited to five images per slideshow and we wanted to show more of Dolores’ kitchen we just had to create another post!
